February 15th, 1951- April 22nd, 2020
The world lost a brilliant and compassionate man on April 22nd due to complications related to Covid-19.
Howard was born in Colchester, Essex, England on February 15th, 1951. He was a graduate of Pembroke College, Cambridge (University of Cambridge) where he studied Engineering and Electrical Sciences.
Howard had a remarkable career that brought him first to Belgium and then to Canada in 1981. He was a pioneer in the semiconductor, cleantech, software and communications sectors and has several patents to his name.
In addition to his many professional achievements, Howard had a deep love of music. Music was a significant part of his life from an early age and a passion he carried with him throughout his life. During his University days he played in a progressive rock band called Public Foot the Roman. Later, he was an active member of the local jazz community in Ottawa for several decades. Sharing music with friends and family was always one of Howard’s greatest joys.
His other greatest joy was spending time with his four grandchildren playing games, building models, conducting science experiments in the kitchen, going on forest walks, visiting museums, and playing music with them. His grandchildren will miss him greatly but will treasure these memories always.
Howard will be dearly missed by his wife Eveline; his children Eva (Adrian), Terence, and Mila (Paul); and his adoring grandchildren Cloé, Katiana, Everett, and Theodore. He will also be sorely missed by his brother and sister and extended family in the UK, and his many friends in Ottawa and around the world.
Given the circumstances, we are planning a memorial event at a later date when we can gather together. We also plan to broadcast the event for those who may not be able to attend in person. Please register below to receive more information by email as it becomes available.
If you wish to honour Howard in the meantime, please consider donating to either The Kidney foundation of Canada, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or the CAMMAC Music Centre. These are all causes that were close to his heart.
